At least 150 extremists of the Al-Shabaab group were killed in an attack by an American drone in Somalia, the Pentagon announced, as reported by the BBC.

Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis said a training camp where a "large-scale attack" was planned had been hit.

"It is known to us that they intended to leave the camp and pose an immediate danger to US and African Union forces," Davis said.

Davis said that initial estimates indicate that more than 150 terrorists have been killed.

According to him, the attack took place on Saturday.

The affected camp is located 195 kilometers north of Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.

Davis said the camp had been under surveillance for some time.
