Japan announced today that it will impose new sanctions on North Korea in response to the launch of a satellite it considers a test of missile technology. The sanctions will expand travel restrictions between the two countries and will completely ban North Korean ships from entering Japanese ports, Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said at a press conference. Suga said that the Cabinet will approve the sanctions later today, and it will be necessary for Parliament to adopt changes to the law. Pyongyang launched a rocket on Sunday to, it claims, put an observation satellite into orbit. This has been condemned around the world, and the West fears that it is a covert test of a long-range missile. The missile launch came a month after North Korea's fourth nuclear test. The US Congress is also considering imposing tougher sanctions on Pyongyang.
