Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced today that Moscow supports representatives of all conflicting parties in Syria to participate in the peace talks in Geneva, even if this means the participation of the Sunni opposition.
Lavrov stressed that the inclusion of representatives of the Jaysh al-Islam and Ahram al-Sham groups, whose founders are linked to Al Qaeda, can only be a temporary situation due to the current situation in Syria.
The head of Russian diplomacy stated during his visit to Abu Dhabi that the inclusion of the radical opposition in the negotiations does not mean that Russia recognizes them as legitimate partners in peace.
Russia, which is the main ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Asda, began airstrikes against Islamic State positions in Syria four months ago.
Russia and the US are the main members of the International Group on Syria, which helped pave the way for the start of peace talks in Geneva.
