At least 28 people were killed today in attacks by suicide bombers in the town of Bodo in northern Cameroon, near the border with Nigeria, local officials said.

65 people were injured in four explosions, two of which occurred in the local market and two in the city itself.

The governor of Midjiava province, Bakari, said that there is information that the suicide bombers came from Nigeria and that they are now investigating where they spent the night before the attack.

Military official Jacob Koji said there was a possibility that extremists from the Islamist organization Boko Haram were behind the attack. According to him, it is possible that their accomplices are still hiding somewhere.

"We have deployed soldiers in the area to assist the local defense groups as we were informed that some (Boko Haram) fighters had escorted the bombers to Cameroon from Nigeria," Koji said.

Boko Haram extremists, who are most active in Nigeria, last year intensified their attacks on neighboring Cameroon, Niger and Chad, countries that help Nigeria fight terrorists. Boko Haram joined the terrorist Islamic State in March last year.
