German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble said today at the World Economic Forum in Davos that Europe must invest billions of euros to cover the costs caused by the migrant crisis.
Schäuble expressed his support for the plan to help countries that are on the migrant route and are suffering a lot of pressure, such as Greece and Italy. He did not want to comment on how many more refugees Germany will accept this year.
"Europe must not become a fortress," Schäuble told those gathered in Davos.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, who currently holds the EU presidency, said Europe must find a common strategy for the migrant crisis in the next two months.
