Five suicide bombers attacked a military base in Iraq north of Baghdad today, reports Reuters.
At least 15 members of the security forces were killed in the attack, while 22 were wounded.
The targets of the attack were Iraqi policemen in Nineveh province in the north of the country who are there for training, a source close to the police there told France Presse.
Two suicide bombers detonated explosives at the gate of the Speicher camp, a former American military base near the city of Tikrit, while three others detonated their explosives after they managed to enter the base, reports Reuters citing eyewitnesses.
The terrorist organization Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement that is being spread on the Internet by its supporters, Reuters reports.
The jihadists took advantage of the fog to enter the camp undetected, added the source of France Press, stating that the police killed seven jihadists in the attack.
