Forty people were arrested after the attack on the embassy of Saudi Arabia in the night from Saturday to Sunday in Tehran, announced the prosecutor of the Iranian capital, Isna agency reports.
"So far, 40 people who broke into the embassy have been identified and arrested. The investigation continues to identify the others responsible for this incident," said prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi.
Protests were organized in Iran due to the execution of an imam in Saudi Arabia, which is led by a Sunni dynasty, and protesters stormed the Saudi embassy, set it on fire and threw papers from the roof.
The spokesman of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Jaber Ansari, last night called the diplomatic police to protect the Saudi embassy, but he also condemned the unjust execution of Imam Nimr al-Nimr.
New demonstrations are scheduled for today in Tehran due to the execution of a Saudi Shiite official.
On the other hand, the Saudis assessed that statements from Iran testify that the country "supports terrorism".
Saudi Arabia, a traditional ally of the US, executed 47 people yesterday for terrorism, and the list of those executed included Imam Nimr al-Nimr, who was sentenced to death in October for rebellion, disobedience and carrying weapons.
