The US Navy has agreed to limit the use of underwater locators and explosives near dolphins, whales and other aquatic mammals, ending a process started by environmental groups.
The end of the process was confirmed by a federal judge in Hawaii and it determined the activities of the US Navy south of California and off the coast of Hawaii.
The environmental protection association Earthjustice sued the US Navy because they judged that their exercises and tests endanger marine flora and fauna.
According to research, the use of underwater electric locators and explosives weakens the hearing of dolphins and whales.
"A whale or a dolphin can't survive if it can't hear," said association attorney David Henkin.
