The US has delivered to the Iraqi authorities the widow of one of the most notorious leaders of the Islamic State, Abu Sayyaf, who was killed in May during an operation by US special forces in Syria, the Pentagon announced.
The Pentagon said that the widow Nasrin Asad Ibrahim, also known as Um Sayaf, which means "mother of Sayaf", is now in the Interior Ministry of the autonomous Kurdistan province.
Um Sayaf has been in American custody since May 15, agencies reported.
Abu Sayyaf, who was allegedly one of the main financiers of the terrorist organization Islamic State, was killed on May 15, and his wife was captured in the operation.
The raid by US special forces was carried out on the order of US President Barack Obama.
The US believes that Um Sayyaf became a member of the Islamic State voluntarily.
Um also played a major role in various terrorist activities of the Islamic State, and it is suspected that she was involved in the kidnapping of Yazidi women.
