Suicide bombers killed 64 people today and last night in Gombe and Damaturu, cities in northeastern Nigeria, officials said, warning people to stay indoors despite the Eid al-Fitr holiday. Police said two female suicide bombers killed 12 people with bombs at two places where worshipers had gathered in Damatur for morning prayers on the Eid al-Fitr holiday, the day that marks the end of the month of Ramadan. Late last night, two bombers killed 50 people who were shopping at the market in Gombe, and injured 75 people. The Nigerian extremist group Boko Haram was blamed for these attacks, which during the holy Muslim month of Ramadan carried out a series of attacks with hundreds of victims. The rise in attacks during Ramadan comes after the Islamic State terrorist group issued an order to do so. Boko Haram is allied with the extremist Islamic State. The new head of the Nigerian army, General Tukur Buratai visited Damaturu today and prayed at the Central Mosque in that city, where there was no attack.
