Nearly 88.000 Syrian rebels have been killed since the start of Russia's intervention in Syria in September 2015, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said today.
"Since the beginning of the operation, more than 87.500 rebels have been eliminated and 1.411 places and more than 95 percent of the Syrian territory have been liberated. Most of the rebels have been liquidated," Shoigu said at the summit in Singapore.
According to the opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, almost 365.000 people have lost their lives since the beginning of the war in Syria.
Russian forces began the intervention in September 2015 to support the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and have so far carried out more than 40.000 airstrikes against 120.000 "terrorist" targets, according to Shoigu.
