The authorities in Mexico announced that the leader of the "Juarez" drug cartel, Jesus Aguayo, who is also wanted by the United States, was arrested.
Aguayo was arrested on April 17 in the town of Villa Aumada in the northern state of Chihuahua, on the border with the USA, the police announced, reports Srna.
Aguayo, also known as Chujin, provided the explosives for the July 2010 car bomb attack that killed two police officers and two medical workers.
He assumed the leadership position of the cartel after the arrest of the previous leader Vicente Carillo in October.
The U.S. has accused Aguayo of drug trafficking and involvement in the murder of Jose Daniel Gonzalez, a protected witness. Gonzalez was killed in 2009 in El Paso.
Aguaya is wanted by Mexican authorities for kidnapping, drug trafficking and theft of gasoline.
More than 100.000 people have lost their lives in drug-related violence in Mexico in the past eight years.
