Iranian Revolutionary Guard General Hossein Salami said today that no nuclear agreement with world powers would allow international inspectors access to military complexes.
Salami, deputy commander of the Revolutionary Guards, told state television that allowing foreign inspection of military compounds would be tantamount to treason.
"Iran will not become a paradise for spies. We will not roll out a red carpet for the enemy," Salami said.
Iran and six world powers - the USA, Great Britain, France, Germany, China and Russia - reached a tentative agreement at the beginning of the month on limiting Tehran's nuclear program and easing sanctions on Iran, and the final agreement should be reached by the end of June.
According to the deal, Iran should allow inspectors from the UN nuclear agency access to all "suspicious sites", declared and undeclared nuclear facilities.
Sanctions would be gradually lifted as the International Atomic Energy Agency confirms that Tehran is complying with the deal. Iran's leaders are demanding that the sanctions be lifted on the first day of the deal's entry into force.
Salami said allowing foreign inspectors to visit the military base would amount to "occupation" and reveal "military and defense secrets."
"It means humiliating the state. They will not even dream of being allowed to inspect even the most ordinary military outpost," Salami said.
