At least 36 people died in Yemen in Saudi Arabia's airstrikes on rebel positions and in clashes between supporters and opponents of the Yemeni president.
The planes of the international coalition, led by Saudi Arabia, attacked strategic positions near the Bab al-Mandeb strait last night.
Shiite Houthi rebels, backed by supporters of former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, continued their offensive after previously seizing parts of Yemen.
Among other things, the rebels control Sana'a, the territories in the central and western part of Yemen and parts of the city of Aden, which the current president Abd Rabbo Mansur Hadi had to leave.
On March 26, Saudi Arabia, which shares a long border with Yemen, began bombing Houthi positions with the Gulf countries and the US.
According to data from the World Health Organization, since the beginning of the conflict in Yemen, almost 736 people have been killed, and more than 2.719 have been wounded.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon yesterday appealed for a ceasefire in Yemen, and previously the UN mediator for that country, Jamal Benomar, resigned.
A new UN mediator for Yemen should be appointed soon.
