Malaysian police said 17 militants were detained for planning terrorist attacks in the country's largest city, Kuala Lumpur.
Police Chief Khalid Abu Bakar said 17 people were detained, including two who had just returned from Syria.
He added that since last year, a total of 92 people, supporters of the "Islamic State" group, have been arrested in Malaysia.
The latest arrests come days after the Interior Ministry proposed new anti-terror laws that would see the reintroduction of indefinite detention without trial.
The new law provides for the confiscation of passports of persons suspected of supporting terrorism, all with the aim of suppressing terrorist activities in the country, Radio Free Europe reports.
