Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat and his bodyguard caught a Palestinian youth today who stabbed an Israeli near the city hall.
Barkat then announced that he was driving in a car when his escort noticed a "terrorist" armed with a knife. The mayor specified that he and his bodyguard immediately jumped out of the vehicle, that the bodyguard took out a gun and that they held the attacker until the police arrived, the Associated Press reported.
Barkat also said that the attacked Israeli suffered minor injuries. "My bodyguard and I jumped right out of the car, he pulled out his weapon and together we held the terrorist until the police arrived and we took care of the wounded man, who luckily was only slightly wounded," said the bodyguard, as reported by Israeli media. The Israeli police confirmed that the mayor was at the scene of the attack and that an 18-year-old Palestinian stabbed a 27-year-old Israeli in the stomach.
It was the latest in a series of Palestinian attacks in recent months, mostly in Jerusalem. There were also attacks in the West Bank and in Tel Aviv. The preliminary investigation showed that the attacker did not have a residence permit in Israel.
