The Islamic State still controls 350 villages around the Kurdish city of Kobani in Syria, which was liberated by Kurdish fighters this Sunday, the Syrian opposition Observatory for Human Rights announced today.
Kurdish fighters who regained control of Kobani on Monday also liberated five villages, but 350 are still in the hands of the jihadists.
The international coalition led by the USA bombed 13 positions of the Islamic State near Kobani yesterday.
This is the biggest defeat of the Islamic State since the jihadists entered Syria in 2013, the Observatory said.
More than 200.000 people have died in Syria since the conflict began in 2011, which soon turned into a civil war.
