The head of Polish diplomacy, Grzegorz Shetina, said that there is no question of Poland sending its soldiers to the field in Iraq and Syria to fight against the Islamic State, but that it will support the coalition against the jihadists.
Shetina also emphasized that due to Islamic terrorism, Europe must not forget the conflict in Ukraine.
"There is absolutely no question of Poland getting involved militarily. We are not going and we will not go anywhere with the naivety of the Americans. We say: we will support the coalition, we will talk about it. We are open to truly fighting terrorism, but we will not make any unprecedented promises," said Shetina to the Polish private television TVN24.
The Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated that Poland is not threatened by Islamic terrorism, but that it must still be prepared for the possibility that terrorists could carry out an attack in Warsaw, any other Polish city, attack a Polish plane or Polish tourists.
"Poland will not be threatened by terrorism if it monitors the situation and cooperates globally with the intelligence services. We have to be ready for an attack," said Shetina last night as a guest on the public service TVP.
In the program of national television, Shetina also warned that official Warsaw does not want to allow the threat of Islamic terrorism to forget that Ukraine is also affected by the conflict.
"We cannot allow Islamic terrorism to occupy all the attention of the public. The topic of the conflict in the east of Ukraine is not closed and the Polish voice needs to be heard. During every meeting in the European Union we discuss it. We say that it is necessary to resolve the Ukrainian-Russian conflict for the sake of a secure Europe," Shetina told TVP.
