Nine people were killed early this morning in an attack on a police station in a village north of Baghdad, Iraqi officials said.
In the attack in the village of Al-Salman, near the city of Tarmiyah, about 50 kilometers north of the Iraqi capital, five policemen and four civilians were killed, and 11 people were wounded.
A car bomb exploded first, then the insurgents opened fire, a police official said.
Two health officials confirmed the death toll.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Iraqi forces, backed by the US military, are fighting the Islamic State, which controls a third of Iraq's territory and a large part of neighboring Syria.
