At least 15 Iraqi border policemen were killed today and five were wounded in an attack by extremists from the Islamic State on a checkpoint on the Iraqi-Syrian border, officials said.

The attack took place in the town of Al Walid on the Iraqi side of the border, a senior military officer said.

This news was confirmed by a government official in the western Iraqi province of Anbar.
