Former member of the Islamic State Sherko Omer said that the jihadists of the Islamic State (IS) have support from the Turkish army and border police on the border with Syria, reports B92.
Omar, who defected from IS, stated that during his time in the paramilitary formation, he traveled to the jihadist stronghold in the Syrian city of Raqqa through Turkish territory, noting that the jihadist convoy entered and exited Turkey several times.
"IS commanders told us not to be afraid of anything, because they are in full cooperation with the Turks." They assured us that nothing would happen and that we would travel quite peacefully from Raqqa and Aleppo to places controlled by the Kurds, as it was impossible to travel through Syria due to the danger of conflict," Omer said, as reported by B92.
That Turkey has a rather undefined attitude towards the war in Syria is also shown by the recent testimony of the Kurds, who pointed out that, after their Peshmerga army had passed, the Turkish border army on several occasions shot at people who were planning to cross the Turkish border into a border town Kobane, to help the Kurds fight IS.
The spokesman of the National Army of Syrian Kurdistan, Polat Can, went even further, saying that Turkish forces are actively helping the jihadists.
"There is more than enough evidence that Turkey is actively helping the jihadists, sending them weapons, ammunition and allowing them to cross the border to continue attacks on innocent Kurds in Rojava, a city in the northeast of Syria," said Dzhan, as reported by B92.
Fugitive jihadist Omer pointed out that the Turkish army saw in the Islamic State an ally in the fight against the Kurds.
"The Kurds are common enemies of IS and Turkey, that's why they cooperate and intend to destroy the enemy together," Omer said.
He left IS, as he says he was forced to become its member, although he went to Syria to fight on the side of the anti-regime forces.
