Extremists of the Islamic State today shot 30 people in the city of Hit in western Iraq, officials and residents of that place said.

On the main street in the city of Hit, people from Sunni tribes who cooperated with the government were executed, as well as members of the security forces who were captured by the jihadists when they captured the city, according to eyewitnesses.

The extremists first led the captives through the city and announced over the loudspeaker that they were infidels who fought against them. The captured were then lined up and shot.

In the photo obtained by the Associated Press, bodies can be seen juxtaposed next to pools of blood.

The chairman of the Anbar provincial council, Sabah Karhut, said those killed were captured when the Islamic State captured the town, about 140 kilometers west of Baghdad.

Karhut said the executions were a "crime against humanity" and called for more international support for Sunni tribes fighting extremists in Anbar province.
