At least 34 people died in two bomb attacks in Iraq today, the Iraqi authorities announced.
The deadliest attack was on the outskirts of the Sunni town of Jurf al-Sahar, where a suicide bomber with an explosives-laden vehicle drove into a military checkpoint and killed at least 24 and wounded 25, mostly members of the Shiite militia.
During the evening, at least 10 people were killed and 18 wounded in another bomb attack in the center of Baghdad, the AP agency reported.
The attack took place in a street with shops and restaurants in Karada district, where the mixed population lives, Reuters added.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack in Jurf al Sahar, 50 kilometers south of Baghdad, but the attack had all the hallmarks of an Islamic State (IS) attack.
IS jihadists lost control of the city yesterday, when Iraqi soldiers and Shiite militias recaptured the city from the Sunni extremist group that held the city in July as part of an offensive that saw them seize a wide swath of northern and western Iraq.
