One of the most prestigious medical schools in the United States will pay out $190 million to thousands of victims of a creepy gynecologist who photographed and recorded his patients without their knowledge.
Lawyers representing about 8.500 plaintiffs said the court in Baltimore, home to Johns Hopkins University and its medical school, accepted the compensation claim.
Nikita Levi, a gynecologist who worked at Johns Hopkins for several years, photographed and recorded his patients using a small camera hidden in a fountain pen.
Levi committed suicide in February 2013, two weeks after the scandal broke. Police found "a large amount of evidence" on his computer.
"When they found out what Dr. Levi did to them, our clients were humiliated. Now, thanks to the compensation, we will be able to start the healing process," the lawyers said in a statement.
