Colombian police seized two tons of cocaine

Colombian police announced on Saturday that they had seized two tons of cocaine from a criminal group in the port of Santa Marta, on the Caribbean coast of the country's north.

According to a police statement, the confiscated drugs belonged to the Urabenos, one of Colombia's main criminal groups, partly composed of former members of far-right paramilitary units, reports Hina.

A total of 2.011 kilograms of drugs were found in a container that was supposed to be sent to the United States of America (USA), and the value of the seized amount was estimated at 56 million dollars on the American market.

Colombia and Peru are the world's main producers of cocaine. Colombian police have already seized more than 25 tons of the drug since the beginning of the year.

In mid-March, a ton and a half of Colombian cocaine was seized on the Caribbean coast of Panama during a joint operation by Colombian, Panamanian and American authorities.
