At least 40 people, mostly civilians, were killed today in airstrikes by the US-led international coalition on the last pockets under the control of the Islamic State in Syria, according to a non-governmental organization and the media.
The target of the attack was the village of Abu el Hosn, which is under the control of extremists in the eastern Syrian province of Deir Ezzor, near the border with Iraq, said the director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Rami Abdel Rahman.
He said at least 43 people were killed, including 17 children and 12 women. According to him, it is not clear whether the men killed in the attack were extremists.
Syria's state-run SANA news agency also reported on the attacks, saying 40 people were killed.
The international coalition, which emphasizes that it is making every effort to avoid targeting civilians, did not immediately respond to a request to comment on these allegations, the AP agency writes.
