The attack on a mall in Nairobi, in which at least 67 people were killed, is a message to Western countries that support Kenya, the leader of al-Shabaab announced.
He warned that there would be more bloodshed if Kenya did not withdraw its forces from Somalia.
The leader of the radical Islamist group Al-Shabaab, Ahmed Abdi Godan, called the attack on the mall a "historic operation" in an audio message.
"Kenyan people, you have embarked on a war that was not yours and is against your interests. You have squandered your peace and prosperity and lost your children," Godan added.
Godan told Kenyans that "they elected politicians and pay taxes to arm the forces that massacre Muslims," AFP reported.
Al-Shabaab, which carried out the attack on the Westgate shopping center in Nigeria on Saturday, said earlier today that foreigners were a "legitimate target" and that the gunmen separated Muslims from others and let them leave the attacked facility in Nairobi.
In an email sent to the US agency Associated Press, Al-Shabaab stated that the jihadists "carried out a meticulous check" so that Muslims would not be harmed.
AP reminds that of the currently known 67 victims, 18 foreigners were killed in the attack - among them six Britons and citizens from France, Canada, Trinidad, the Netherlands, Australia, Peru, India, Ghana, South Africa and China.
