Presidents of China and Venezuela, Xi Jinping and Nicolas Maduro, signed a series of agreements in Beijing today aimed at strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
Maduro conveyed to his Chinese counterpart Xi that the main goal of his visit is to further expand the strategic partnership between the two countries, which was started with the Chinese leadership by his predecessor, Hugo Chávez.
The two presidents signed 12 agreements today, including agreements on financial funds, education and joint development of state-owned oil companies, as well as in the field of science.
Maduro told his Chinese counterpart that Venezuela is in an important period of economic transformation and wants to develop its economic structure.
"We want to invest great efforts in the development of our own manufacturing industries and at the same time strengthen our socialist foundations for the 21st century," Maduro said. He said that he believes that these goals will be achieved in this decade through exchange and future partnership projects of the two countries.
Xi Jinping called Maduro "a good friend of China" and assessed that the visit of the Venezuelan president will raise bilateral relations between China and Venezuela "to new heights."
