New York police are searching for an unknown assailant who shot a one-year-old boy in the face in a stroller.
The incident happened in the Brownsville area, part of Brooklyn, and the parents went for a walk with the baby, AP reports.
According to police inspector Raymond Kelly, the target was probably the child's father.
The parents of the unfortunate baby immediately went to the hospital, where the doctors could only state that he was dead, and that the child had a gunshot wound on the right side of his face.
A girl who witnessed this event told the New York Post that she heard three or four shots.
By the way, Brownsville is considered one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in New York.
Inspector Kelly said four shell casings were found on the street corner and bullet holes in the trolley. He said that the police have leads, which they are persistently following.
The mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg, said that this is a tragedy for the family, the whole society, and the whole city.
Unfortunately, this is not the first such case. On Friday, an 18-year-old man was convicted in Georgia of murdering a 13-month-old baby, who he killed when the child's mother refused to give him her bag.
