Amnesty International labeled the five imprisoned Cubans as "prisoners of conscience" and asked the Cuban authorities for their speedy release.
The imprisonment of the five Cubans is "just the tip of the iceberg of the Cuban repression of freedom of speech," said the special adviser of "Amnesty" Javier Zuniga, the AP agency reported.
Cuban officials deny the existence of any political prisoners. The Cuban government and its supporters call dissidents "mercenaries" who take foreign money to destroy the country's communist system.
In recent years, Cuba has released from prison all those designated by the international community as prisoners of conscience. Activists say that instead, the authorities began to detain them for shorter periods.
