In the earthquake that hit the Chinese province of Gansu, according to new official data, at least 89 people died and more than 600 were injured.
The 6,6-magnitude earthquake struck the area between Minxiang and Zhangxiang counties, with an epicenter at a depth of 20 kilometers, the Gansu Provincial Seismological Service said.
The earthquake was felt in most cities in Minxian, and Meichuan and Puma were the most affected, where a large number of houses collapsed.
Communications in 13 cities of Zhangxiang County were cut off.
Members of the army and the police were sent to the threatened areas to join the rescue operation, and the local authorities provided first aid and a thousand tents.
Meteorologists have forecast rain in the affected areas for today, which could complicate the rescue operation.
