Nine people in China were sentenced to prison terms of one to 10 years for selling kidneys on the black market. All the convicts are under 30 years old.
The organ traffickers claimed that they had originally sold their kidneys and then started recruiting other people to do so.
They were convicted of recruiting volunteers to sell their kidneys online in 2011, according to a court ruling.
These people were housed in rented houses, where they waited for their kidneys to be surgically removed and sold to patients who needed them. In this way, more than 10 people were recruited and operations were successfully performed on them.
The organ traffickers claimed that they had originally sold their kidneys, and then they started recruiting other people to do so. In doing so, they earned about $3.250 per kidney.
All the property they acquired in this way will be confiscated, according to the court verdict.
