Obama paid tribute to Israeli heroes and victims of the Holocaust

At the end of a three-day visit to Israel, US President Barack Obama paid tribute to the heroes of Israel and the victims of the Holocaust, and also visited the biblical birthplace of Jesus Christ.

Obama laid on Rabin's grave a stone brought from the Martin Luther King Memorial in Washington

Accompanied by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres, Obama laid wreaths at the graves of Theodor Herzl, the founder of modern Zionism who died in 1904 before realizing his dream of a Jewish homeland, and former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who was assassinated in 1995

During the day, Obama will travel to Jordan, where he will meet with King Abdullah II. Among the topics of discussion will be solving the problem of half a million refugees from Syria. Abdullah expressed his fear that extremists and terrorists could create a regional base in Jordan.

The visit to Herzl's grave, as well as the tour where he saw the ancient Hebrew text of the Dead Sea Scrolls, or the Qumran writings, are symbolic moves for Obama to acknowledge that the explanation for Israel's existence rests on its historical ties to the region and the vision that existed before the Holocaust.

At Rabin's grave, Obama was greeted by family members of the former Israeli prime minister. In a gesture that connects the US and Israel, the stone Obama placed on Rabin's grave was brought from the Martin Luther King Memorial in Washington, the White House said.

Before visiting the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, Obama visited the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial.
