A snowstorm and heavy rain swept over Lebanon, killing four people, the BBC reported. The authorities have raised the alert level to the highest level, announcing that the country is facing the worst weather event in the last ten years.
Jerusalem has been under snow since this morning due to the "storm of the decade". An unprecedented snowstorm disabled public transport today, closed schools and blocked roads in Jerusalem and in northern Israel bordering Lebanon.
Citizens were appealed over the military radio to stay at home and stay off the streets.
In the West Bank, four Palestinians were killed in the storm since Tuesday evening, two women were killed in the city of Tulkarem, and two more people were killed in Jenin.
Many roads, including the main one, connecting Jerusalem and Tel Aviv are closed today due to snow.
According to the forecast of the Israeli Hydrometeorological Institute, the snow will not stop falling until this afternoon.
Local Israeli authorities have advised citizens not to use cars, in order not to get stuck in the snow, and because of possible slides.
In Jerusalem and its suburbs, as well as in the West Bank, schools are still closed today, and there is no electricity in 20.000 houses in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
The "storm of the decade" also caused large financial losses, and restaurants and shops recorded a large drop in sales.
This kind of snow has not fallen in Jerusalem since 1992. Ten to 15 centimeters of snow has already fallen in the center of the city, and even more in the surrounding area.
