More than 100 people gathered in Baku's central square, shouting "Freedom!", but the police soon intervened and arrested dozens of protesters. After that, groups of demonstrators tried to gather again, but the police detained them.
The leader of the Muzavat opposition party, Iza Gambar, told Agence France-Presse that the police detained a certain number of people this morning.
"With this action, we managed to draw the attention of the international community to the alarming state of human rights, freedom of the press and the political situation in Azerbaijan," he said.
Previous demonstrations, on November 17, where they demanded the dissolution of parliament and the resignation of President Ilham Aliyev, were violently dispersed. Human rights organizations accuse Aliyev's regime of persecuting journalists and arresting dissidents.
