Twenty people have died in a series of suicide attacks in Afghanistan, local officials said.
An attack in the southern province of Helmand killed 10 civilians in a wedding procession. One child was among the dead, and seven people were wounded, said an official of the security center of that province.
In a second attack today, a suicide bomber detonated explosives among members of the police in the city of Kandahar. In the attack, one policeman was killed and two others were wounded, said the spokesman of the governor of Kandahar province.
Five soldiers were killed when their convoy hit a mine in eastern Pagman province, officials said.
Two boys were killed when a roadside bomb exploded in southern Afghanistan. Officials said the bomb was planted by insurgents and that the target of the attack was likely to be police officers.
Insurgent attacks on officials and police became more frequent as international forces began to withdraw from Afghanistan.
NATO began withdrawing its troops at the beginning of 2012. There are currently 104.000 soldiers on the territory of Afghanistan, of which 68.000 are American. All international forces will withdraw from this country by the end of 2014.
