"It is very important that I had the opportunity to emphasize the importance of the relationship between France and the USA," said the new French head of state during the meeting with President Barack Obama at the White House.
In the conversation with President Obama, Hollande also advocated a policy of revival and economic growth that should be added to austerity measures in order to solve the problem of the debt crisis.
"Economic growth must remain a priority. President Obama is also in favor of a policy of sustainable growth. We are both convinced that Greece should remain in the euro zone," said Hollande.
President Obama also highlighted the importance of the relationship between the US and France ahead of the opening of the Group of Eight (G8) summit. "The US understands the importance of relations with France," Obama said, expressing his belief that "the G8 summit will discuss ways to stimulate economic growth."
In addition to economic issues, the two presidents casually discussed Afghanistan and Hollande's announcement of the early withdrawal of French troops from this country.
The G8 brings together the most powerful Western economies, the USA, Japan, Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy and Canada, as well as the Russian Federation.
