Parviz Soruri, a member of the Foreign Policy and National Security Committee, said the suspected agents were working in coordination with Israel's Mossad and other regional intelligence services, and that their targets were Iran's military and nuclear program.
"The espionage apparatus of the US and Zionist regimes tried to harm Iran, inside and outside the country, with the help of regional intelligence services," said Surori's statement.
"Fortunately, thanks to the quick reaction of the Iranian intelligence service, their work did not bear fruit," Soruri added.
The MP did not say when or where the alleged spies were arrested or specify their nationalities.
The announcement of the arrests came after Lebanon's Hezbollah movement exposed a CIA spy ring in the country. Hezbollah reportedly works closely with Iran.
Hezbollah's longtime leader, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, boasted on television in June that he had discovered at least two CIA spies who had infiltrated his organization. The US Embassy in Lebanon officially denied the allegations, however, US officials admitted that Nasrallah was not lying and that Hezbollah had indeed arrested the CIA informants.
The US and its allies suspect that Iran is secretly working to develop nuclear weapons, which the Iranian authorities deny.
