US President Donald Trump again criticized the decision to build a new US embassy in London, and its location in South London as "bad" and "terrible".
Trump spoke about the embassy three months after he said that the sale of the building in the central London district of Mayfair, where the embassy was previously located, was a "bad deal", writes the BBC (BBC).
The US president blamed his predecessor Barack Obama for the bad job, even though the relocation of the embassy was agreed upon during George W. Bush's term.
The new embassy cost $730 billion (£XNUMX million).
Trump said he thought — but would have to verify — that officials sold the previous location for $250 million.
"We had the best location in all of London. The best location... And then some genius said: We're going to sell the location and then we're going to take the money and build a new embassy. That sounds good, but if there's still money left over if it's done, right?" Trump said at a rally in Michigan.
A new embassy in a more secure building south of the Thames opened in January this year. Trump recalled that he did not want to cut the ribbon.
The sale of the embassy in Mayfair ended the American presence in that posh quarter since the 18th century when the first US ambassador was John Adams, who later became president.
