Colombian border police seized 2,2 tons of cocaine from a small boat along Colombia's southwestern coast, the country's navy said.
There were five people on board, including one Honduran citizen. The Navy's announcement states that all persons have been detained.
The drugs, whose market value is estimated at about 60 million dollars, were distributed in 2.200 packages and, according to all appearances, belonged to the criminal group "Urabeos", which consists of former members of various paramilitaries who have dedicated themselves to drug trafficking.
The ship headed for Panama, from where the drugs were supposed to be transferred to the USA, the announcement states, adding that the entire operation was carried out in cooperation with the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
According to United Nations data, Colombia was the biggest seller of narcotics last year with 350 tons of drugs. He sold a slightly smaller amount of drugs to Peru.
