Robbers attacked the South Korean embassy in Tripoli, seven days after rebels entered the Libyan capital, which they claim is under their control, South Korean authorities said.
About a dozen attackers forced their way into the embassy on Sunday afternoon and tried to rob furniture and electronic devices, South Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman Shin Meng-Ho said.
They, however, soon left the embassy empty-handed after embassy staff called insurgent representatives for help. The rebels came immediately, and no one from the embassy was injured in the incident.
"We think it's about civilians who posed as rebels, because as soon as members of the police controlled by the rebels came, the attackers immediately ran away," Portaprol said.
Most of the diplomatic staff of the South Korean embassy was transferred temporarily to Tunisia at the end of May, due to the fighting in Libya and the bombing of the NATO air force.
