Israeli planes targeted the Gaza Strip early this morning, and the attack killed one Palestinian extremist and wounded five people, one of whom was a child.
The Israeli military said it hit five targets in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.
Four targets were hit in retaliation for yesterday's rocket fire from Gaza on the southern Israeli city of Beersheba, in which there were no casualties, and in the fifth attack, an Israeli plane hit a group of armed men who were preparing to fire a missile, the army said.
Palestinian doctor Adham Abu Salmiya said that five people were wounded in the attacks, including a five-year-old boy.
Israel frequently carries out airstrikes against targets in the Gaza Strip in response to the firing of rockets into its territory.
