In the fighting between the Libyan rebels and the troops of leader Muammar Gaddafi, which took place all day inside the key oil terminal in Brega on the Mediterranean, two rebels were killed and 16 were wounded, said their spokesman Muhammad al-Zawawi.
He added that the rebels entered the first of three parts that make up the port of Brega, the strategic oil terminal and the second largest fossil liquid fuel complex.
In the last three weeks, the rebels have been trying to recapture Brega, which is located about 200 kilometers southwest of their de facto capital, Benghazi.
According to the AP agency, whoever takes control of that oil terminal will actually be able to manage the main oil fields in the country.
The six-month-old civil war in Libya is not abating, despite the NATO intervention that began at the end of March, with the aim of protecting civilians, and under the mandate of the UN.
