The oil corporation ExxonMobile has announced that it has found a new oil deposit in the Gulf of Mexico, which could contain 700 million barrels, the business news portal CNNMoney reports.
The company announced that its first deepwater well has found its second new oil and gas deposit.
"It's the biggest discovery in the Gulf of Mexico in a decade," said Steve Greenlee, president of ExxonMobil Exploration.
"It is good news for the American oil industry, but it will hardly have an impact on the world oil supply," said Manočehr Takin, senior oil analyst at the Center for Global Energy Studies in London.
Takin says the world consumes about 72 million barrels of crude oil per day.
The latest discovery would be enough to provide energy for the world for 10 days, he said, adding that ExxonMobil will need several years of drilling, pumping, refining and selling that oil to consumers.
