Libyan rebels have seized one of the main border crossings to Tunisia, Wazan, an eyewitness said. A reporter from Agence France-Presse reported that between 150 and 200 disarmed soldiers loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi had crossed into Tunisian territory. After brief clashes early this morning, Libyan rebels occupied a building at the Wazan border crossing, an eyewitness told the AFP agency. Several hundred rebels celebrated the occupation of the border crossing by shooting in the air, hanging the flag of the monarchy, which has become a symbol of the rebellion against the Gaddafi regime. The Wazan border crossing is located on the road connecting the Libyan city Nalut with the Tunisian town of Dehiba. Fierce fighting has been going on in the west of Libya for the last few days. More than 100 people died over the weekend in Nalut and Jefren, said residents of the region, from which thousands of people have so far fled to Tunisia. A large part of the Al-Jabal A-Gharbi region is under rebel control, locals say. The rebellion in Libya broke out in mid-February, and on March 19, the international intervention led by NATO began.
