More than 50 mines fired from the Gaza Strip landed in southern Israel, lightly injuring two people, Israeli media reported.
Most of the mines landed in an open field, and Palestinian news sources reported that Israeli tank shells subsequently hit the Gaza Strip in response to Palestinian barrage fire.
The same sources state that targets were hit in the south and in the central part of the Palestinian territory and that there were no injuries. Residents of southern Israel were told to stay in shelters and tourists were advised to leave the border area while special police units removed unexploded mines.
