The company that broadcasts the English-language Russian television program RT in the US capital, Washington, will turn off that television from next month.
This television will continue to be available via satellite, CNN reports.
MHz, RT's main broadcaster in Washington, D.C., announced earlier this month that it will cut the network's broadcasts starting April 24. The decision also affects other international networks, such as France XNUMX, China's CGTN and Germany's Deutsche Welle, according to CNN.
As a result of that decision, cable operators in Washington such as Comcast and Cox Communications will stop carrying them.
The Kremlin called the decision to stop the broadcasting of Russian television RT in Washington "groundless and discriminatory", reports TASS.
"Lawyers are considering the situation in detail, but for now it still looks like an unfounded decision, because even the status of a foreign agent cannot in itself be a reason to shut down a media company," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters today.
He added that such measures reflect "a discriminatory policy against mass media in the US that is contrary to American law."
RT television blames the American Ministry of Justice for that decision.
RT announced last year that the American Department of Justice forced the American production company for broadcasting that Russian television in the USA "T&R Productions" to register as a foreign agent. American companies that operate the radio and online versions of the Russian government-funded radio network and the website Sputnik are also required to register as foreign agents, CNN reports.
Companies that register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) can continue broadcasting as before but must regularly submit reports and information about their activities and their audience to clearly indicate that they are registered as foreign agents.
