US President Donald Trump today accused the Democrats of "the greatest abuse of power in the history" of the US for launching a series of parliamentary investigations related to him.
"Democrats are obstructing justice. They are embarking on a great desperate crusade in pursuit of crime when the real crime is what the Democrats are doing and what they have done," Trump wrote in a Twitter message and added in capital letters "A troubled president."
The Committee on Legal Affairs of the House of Representatives of the US Congress launched yesterday an extensive investigation against US President Donald Trump, his White House, election headquarters and companies, sending requests to provide documents to 81 people associated with Trump and his associates.
Democrats hold the majority in the House of Representatives.
Among others, documents were requested from Trump's two sons, Eric and Donald Jr., as well as from his son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
The chairman of that committee, Democrat Jerrold Neidler, said the investigation will focus on possible obstruction of justice, corruption and abuse of power.
Three committees of the House of Representatives of the US Congress have asked the White House and the State Department for information about private conversations between the presidents of the US and Russia, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
Trump and Putin spoke privately for more than two hours at a summit in Helsinki last July, in the presence of interpreters.
Yesterday, when the initiation of these investigations was announced, Trump said that it was a fraudulent move, but that he would cooperate with all ongoing investigations.
"Democrats are harassing the president to distract from their radical agenda," White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said.
According to her, they are more interested in "pathetic political games" and the desire to satisfy the radical and leftist base than to give concrete results to the citizens.
"Democrats are not looking for the truth, they want to attack the president," she said.
