India and Pakistan again exchanged attacks on military positions and villages in Kashmir

Indian and Pakistani soldiers today again shelled each other's military posts and villages along the border in Kashmir, despite increased diplomatic efforts by both countries to reduce tensions.

The armies of India and Pakistan have accused each other of launching artillery attacks and small arms fire.

So far, there are no reports of possible casualties.

Tensions between the two countries rose when Indian jets entered Pakistan on February 26 and carried out what New Delhi said were pre-emptive strikes against extremists accused of a February 14 suicide attack in Indian-held Kashmir that killed 40 Indian soldiers.

Pakistan returned fire, shooting down two Indian planes last Wednesday and capturing the pilot, who has since been returned to India.
