Kashmir: A bomb was thrown at a bus station, one person was killed and 29 people were injured

In the explosion of a bomb at a bus station in the Indian part of Kashmir, one person was killed while at least 29 people were wounded, Reuters reported, citing local police.

A bomb was thrown at the main bus station in the city of Jammu, rolled under the bus and exploded.

Jammu is a city with a majority Indian population where the people protested for days due to the suicide bomber attack on February 14 this year in which 40 members of the Indian paramilitary formations were killed.

Many Muslim houses were stoned, and several cars were burned, prompting city authorities to impose a curfew for several days, AP reported.

Tension between the two countries escalated after India launched an airstrike on the Pakistani side of Kashmir last Sunday, claiming to have uncovered the extremists behind the February 14 bombing in the Indian side of Kashmir.

Pakistan retaliated by shooting down two Indian fighter jets and capturing the pilot who was later returned.

The administration of Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan, but both sides claim the entire region.

The majority of Kashmiris support the rebels and want the region to either join Pakistan or gain sovereignty and become an independent state.

In the past, Indian authorities have accused insurgents of similar attacks, but usually without evidence.
